This may be more relevant to your alcohol post, but I personally find that alcohol actually benefits me this time of year, for the following reasons:

* Suppresses my appetite, probably because it relaxes me and helps me keep in control (oddly) when I get that hungry, agitated, serotonin-deprived feeling.
* Makes socializing more tolerable, and actually helps me take in less calories. If I wasn't drinking, I'd be hanging around the buffet table all day, stuffing my face.
* Takes longer to sip a drink then it takes (me) to eat a calorically-equivalent cookie.

Anyone else have a similar experience, or am I just fishing for excuses to drink?

Also, I'd argue that on a few special days (Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthday, anniversary), one shouldn't even bother with a caloric buffer (at least not mentally). Even if you eat 6-7,000 calories, you probably only store about a pound of fat. If you've dialed in your calories for the other 48 weeks, you've still come out ahead for the year. That said, I think the caloric buffer strategy is extremely helpful for the random eating events that come up this time of year (holiday parties, etc.)

Eat 80% fat, (butter , lard, olive oil, coconut fat), and 20% protein, (meat, fish, eggs), for 30 days, then see how you are going, Eat until you are full, it is very hard to over eat, because it is so filling and satisfying. Eat 2 or 3 times each day. Have coffee with full fat cream. Keep your carbs to as close to zero as possible. Remember eggs, cheese, and cream have some carbs, so be carefull there. Use artificial, sweeteners for coffee, if needed, not too many though. You will lose weight, Do not starve yourself, hunger is anti weight loss.

@Dennis. You’re basically on 1600 cals every day for a guy that weighs over 200lbs. That probably explains the dizziness, especially if you’ve been eating like that for a while now. When cutting you have to gradually reduce caloric intake, and even if you did, you might never have needed to go as low as 1600. Also, at such a low calorie level for a guy your size, 170g protein is not enough. You may start to lose muscle. I don’t want to give you a sales pitch, but you should check out my Total Six Pack Abs book for a scientific approach to effective cutting. If you do decide to do that program, take 2 weeks off from cutting and eat at maintenance levels to allow your metabolism to reset first.

Also, two days out from your pool party or photo shoot drink at least two to three gallons of water. Consume gallons of water a day out before 3 PM and then cut it completely. Take in 50 grams of carbs from rice with about 60 grams of chicken breast every two hours on the day before until 3 PM. At 3 PM switch over to 5 rice cakes with honey every two hours until 9 PM, consuming two Flameout capsules each time you consume the rice cakes and honey at 3 PM, 5 PM, 7 PM and 9 PM. Have you ever tried to do a hard weight session after HIIT, or vice versa? If you’re human then probably not, because both are exhausting. But for those masochists who have, you’ll likely remember that there was a serious compromise of the latter session. This is because the intensity simply can’t be maintained for two consecutive exercise bouts, particularly when on a low carbohydrate diet. But, by splitting this intensity between two separate workouts, you are better able to focus your energies on a single task, thereby maximizing fat burning potential!
